Mary Ongwen

is a Ugandan-American writer of personal essays and short stories. Her work centers around motherhood and the experience of raising a Ugandan family in the American culture. Her writing focuses on the Afro-politan experience of juggling two worlds and the search for belonging.

Her articles have appeared in The New Vision, Uganda’s leading daily newspaper. Mary has a degree in Literature and Sociology from Makerere University and is pursuing a master’s in writing from Johns Hopkins University..
